Diagnostic Evaluation
The purpose of a diagnostic evaluation is to gain an in-depth understanding of an individual’s difficulties, strengths, and functioning. The evaluation typically requires several meetings and will result in a diagnosis and specific recommendations for treatment.
For child evaluations we will meet with both children and parents for observation and interview. For adult evaluations we may ask to include significant others. The evaluation will include discussions with teachers, doctors, other professionals, and additional family members. For children we often suggest a school observation. You will be asked to complete questionnaires about behavioral, social, and emotional well being. At the conclusion of the evaluation we will share our diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations with you. You will then have an opportunity to review them, ask questions, and to participate in developing a comprehensive treatment plan.
For child evaluations we take time to explain this process and provide feedback in a way that is understandable and appropriate for your child’s level of development.
